Matt: It’s the little things which are the most important ones

Matt experienced that it's the little things which are the most important ones

“The little things are the most important ones” was becoming kind of a life motto for Matt who had an accident with his motorbike. All these things brought him to New Zealand where he travels on his motorbike with his surfboard strapped to his bike. His destination: Wherever the waves are good!

What have been your biggest learnings so far?

Have you experienced a life-changing moment?

There was a life-changing moment when I realized that I wanted do something else with my life than being a winemaker. As soon as I decided to quit and sell the wine business, everything just made sense. It just worked out. Everything just felt better. I was really stressed out about all the little things in the winery. There are so many little aspects to consider in the wine industry. When I was relieved of all that – and that was replaced with other decisions – those decisions just felt so much easier. The outcomes of my decision making at that point just made more sense to me.

You had an accident last year. If this had been the last day of your life…what would you have done?

In which way has your life changed after your motorcycle accident?

After the accident I really made my life exciting. I don’t have to have a huge goal. All I want is to be good to people. And I would like to meet new people. Make old relationships stronger. And just go and do things. I don’t just want to sit around and be stagnant. And if somebody has something to teach me, I am trying to learn. They are willing to let their knowledge flow and I’m willing to absorb it. It makes my day brighter.

Matt: “The little things are the most important ones in life.”

How does your life look like while you are on the road?

I travel around New Zealand on a motorcycle with my surfboard strapped to the side of my bike. Basically I am just following the swell. I use a little bit of Wifi here and there to figure out where the next big waves are. So yes, I am chasing the waves. Most of the times I sleep in my hammock in the forest, I don’t even have a tent. Just once in a while I enjoy the luxury of a hostel.

What are your goals in life?

Why do you like travelling so much?

I’ve been travelling for a long time. I love travelling. The main reason are the people I meet on my way. I have made so many friends, got to know so many fascinating people. Some of them are so close to me know, I am sure we’ll stay friends forever. We are already visiting each other in our countries. That’s super exciting. Also, seeing nature in other parts of the world is just amazing. I love the little nuances of different cultures and places. And on top of that I love stepping into the unknown. That’s probably at the top of my list why I like travelling.

Do you have a five year plan?

What is your life motto?

Believe it or not, a few months after we have met, Matt tells us that he’s buliding his own sauna in his house in California. Really cool! Check out his Instagram account: @adrenalinetherapy
